Blue Matcha (Butterfly Blue Pea Flower)
Sometimes referred to as "Blue Matcha" this powder actually comes the butterfly pea flower. Having no Camellia sinensis (tea) in it. The use of the word "matcha" in this sense is used to describe its powdery consistency.
Native to the tropical regions of Asia, the Butterfly Pea Flower is known for its strikingly deep blue color. The flower is used as a natural food coloring and is commonly used to tint food dishes such as rice dishes in Malaysia. In Thailand, as well as in drinks such as the blue drink called "nam dok anchan". Which is consumed with a squeeze of sweet lime juice which turns the drink into a pink-purple color.
